It’s been about 25 years since one of the most successful products came to market: The PlayStation 2 (PS2) from Sony. With over 155 million units sold, the PS2 was definitely the world’s best-selling console. And this record is not likely to change in the foreseeable future. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the PS2 and wish our former partner Sony continued success. And of course, we also hope for more good ideas for hardware, innovative new consoles, and many exciting games.
Partnership with Sony
Former Partner Sony?
Exactly, you read that right. What many didn’t know: From 2005 to 2008, we were a partner of the tech company from Japan. Even before the official release of the PlayStation 3 in Europe – on March 23, 2007 – we already had the console in our office. Along with the titles Call of Duty, Tony Hawks, and NBA 2k7. Back then, Sony had few partnerships in Germany. This made us one of the first owners of a Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) in this country. We spent many hours daily playing the numerous great games at the beginning. 😉
Converting Videos for PlayStation
Around the same time as the Sony PlayStation 3, another innovative product came to market – the Formatwandler. This software is the great-predecessor of today’s MyFormatConverter. In addition to converting and transforming any audio and video formats, the Formatwandler was also one of the first tools that could convert videos precisely for playback on the Sony PlayStation 3. The Sony PS3 format was already part of a comprehensive profile list in the first version.
Converting for Game Consoles: Still a Popular Feature Today
Even today, converting formats for game consoles remains an important feature of MyFormatConverter. No matter where a video originally comes from, with just a few clicks you have it in the exact right format for playback on the PlayStation. Optimal format, correct resolution, proper frame rate. And even the recommended bitrate settings for audio and video are accurate.
In addition to the PlayStation, video profiles for other popular game consoles like the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox have been added over time. Even if these consoles can’t hold a candle to Sony’s PlayStation in terms of sales figures, they are still important profiles for the software users.

Here you can find more information about MyFormatConverter, a multi-media tool with which you can do much more than just converting videos for game consoles. By the way, you can get a trial version of the tool from us for free.
