Press Release: PDFolio processes PDFs locally, not in the cloud

New PDF toolkit from Engelmann Software for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Dortmund, August 15, 2026 – Correcting a typo in a PDF, merging multiple documents, removing individual pages, filling out a form, or permanently redacting confidential information: for many everyday tasks involving PDF files, users today rely on different programs or web-based services.

With PDFolio, Engelmann Software GmbH releases a new PDF toolkit for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The software bundles the most important tasks related to PDF documents into one application.

A key difference from web-based PDF services: Documents are processed locally on the user's computer. PDF files do not need to be uploaded to a server or to a cloud for editing.

Edit PDF files and organize pages

PDFolio initially covers the tasks that are most frequently encountered in daily work with PDF files.

Multiple PDFs can be merged into one document or split again. Individual pages can be rearranged, rotated, deleted, or extracted from a document. JPG and PNG images can also be inserted into a PDF as new pages.

A page preview facilitates orientation even in more extensive documents.

With PDFolio Plus and Pro, users can also directly change existing text lines in the PDF and replace or remove images.

This means, for example, that if there is a typo or an incorrect date, it is not always necessary to find, change, and re-export the original Word or Office document as a PDF.

Fill out forms and insert signatures

PDF forms can be filled out directly on the computer and then saved again as a PDF.

One's own signature can also be placed as an image at the desired location in the document. A preview shows how the signature will look in the finished document before saving.

This explicitly concerns the insertion of a signature image and not a digital signature with a certificate.

Watermarks, page numbers, and password protection

PDFolio offers additional tools for editing and sharing documents.

Watermarks, page numbers, and headers and footers can be inserted. PDF documents can be protected with a password. An existing password protection can be removed again if the password is known.

The metadata of a PDF can also be edited or removed. Individual pages can also be exported as JPG or PNG files.

PDFolio Pro permanently removes confidential content

One of the advanced features of PDFolio Pro is the permanent redaction of confidential information.

For example, anyone who wants to remove names, addresses, account numbers, or other sensitive information before sharing a document should not just cover it with a black area. The underlying content can still be part of the PDF file.

PDFolio Pro permanently removes redacted content from the document.

This function is suitable, for example, for contracts, invoices, tax documents, personnel records, or business documents that need to be cleared of confidential information before being shared.

Reduce large PDF files

PDFolio Pro can also reduce the file size of PDF documents.

This is helpful, for example, when a large PDF needs to be sent by email or uploaded to a portal with a limited file size.

This can involve recalculating included images and optimizing embedded fonts, among other things.

Convert Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to PDF

Another Pro feature is the conversion of Office documents.

PDFolio Pro can:

✔ Convert PowerPoint presentations to PDF

Microsoft Office does not need to be installed on the computer for this.

For recurring tasks with larger document volumes, PDFolio Pro also offers batch processing. This allows an action to be applied to multiple PDF files.

Documents remain on your own computer

During the development of PDFolio, a conscious decision was made to process documents locally.

PDF files often contain confidential information such as contracts, invoices, tax documents, personnel records, business documents, or private correspondence.

PDFolio does not upload documents to be processed to Engelmann Software's servers. PDF processing takes place locally on the computer.

An internet connection is required for the activation and regular verification of a purchased license, as well as for updates. The processed PDF documents are not transmitted.

One license for Windows, Mac, and Linux

PDFolio is simultaneously released for the three major desktop platforms.

Supported are:

✔ Windows 10 from version 1809 and Windows 11, both 64-bit
✔ macOS 11 Big Sur or newer on Apple Silicon and Intel
✔ Linux 64-bit as AppImage

A PDFolio license is not limited to a single operating system. Users do not have to choose between Windows, Mac, and Linux when purchasing.

PDFolio Plus and PDFolio Pro

PDFolio is offered in two purchase editions.

PDFolio Plus is aimed at users who want to perform typical PDF tasks. These include editing texts and images, forms, watermarks, page numbers, signatures, password protection, metadata, and exporting PDF pages as images.

Prices start at 24.99 Euros.

PDFolio Pro includes all Plus features and adds permanent redaction of confidential content, reduction of PDF file sizes, conversion of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, and batch processing.

PDFolio Pro is available from 39.99 Euros.

For both editions, licenses are offered for one, three, or five devices.

Both purchase editions are offered without an ongoing subscription.
